Pithecellobium dulce  (Roxb.) Benth. Manila tamarind  - Fabaceae

The common names Manila tamarind, Madras thorn and black bead refer to Pithecellobium dulce, a mid-sized evergreen tree that grows along the Pacific Coast from Mexico to Venezuela.  Its curved pods contain several black seeds in an edible pulp.  Flat black seeds become beads in Tarahumara necklaces.
