Schizolobium parahyba  (Vell.) S.F. Blake Schizolobium - Fabaceae

Schizolobium parahyba, a spectacular flowering tree is native from Mexico to Brazil.  The genus name is from the Greek schizo (to divide) and lobos (pod) which refers to the manner in which the thin inner coat of the pod splits away from the firm outer coat.  

The pod is quite flat and contains only one flat, brown, oval-shaped seed.
