Cassia  grandis  L.f. - Fabaceae

The seeds of Cassia grandis, the pink-shower tree, are shown here in a necklace from Central America.  The tree produces dark brown, pendulous pods up to 2 feet long (60 cm) containing brown seeds embedded in a malodorous pulp.  The hilum (the point of attachment of the seed to the pod) appears on one side of the seed and not on the margin as it does in most other legume seeds.
