Dalbergia monetaria  L. f. Ð Coin plant  - Fabaceae

The very flat fruits of the coin plant, Dalbergia monetaria, contain a few oval flat seeds the size of a half-dollar, which are used in necklaces and belts in Peru.

Indigenous to tropical America, the coin plant grows as a shrubby tree or vine.  Its fruits often travel by river from its interior habitat to the Atlantic coast and nearby islands.
