Delonix regia (Bojer ex Hook.) Raf. Ð Royal poinciana  - Fabaceae

Discovered in its native habitat of Madagascar, royal poinciana, Delonix regia, is now grown in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world.  It is valued as a shade tree and for its ornamental flowers.  A member of the bean family, its pods are six to fourteen inches (15-35 centimeters) long.  The pod's many oblong seeds are encircled by a dark margin.

The seeds are used in many parts of the world to make attractive jewelry.
